The purpose of this position is to review, analyze, evaluate and negotiate complex and catastrophic claims related to Property, Commercial, and Liability claims within the field. The incumbent is responsible for investigating losses when necessary, as well as assigning the appropriate relevant experts to assist in the effective management and resolution of the claim.

What you will do as a part of the team:

• Looked upon as a resource to the Underwriting Department on claims coverage interpretation and application thereof, as well as claims development explanations

• Accountable for claims at all transaction levels including, coverage interpretation, evaluation, reserve adjustments, payments, written and verbal communication, expert requirements and internal reporting requirements

• Consults as required for authority requests with respect to payments and incurred handling

• Acts as coordinator for ensuring appropriate resources are utilized in the effective resolution of claims

• Reviews claims queries and complaints and takes appropriate action where necessary

• Ability to make onsite decisions when presented with a set of facts or circumstances

What you will need to succeed:

The expectation for this role is that the incumbent has attained the relevant technical knowledge that is deemed expert in their respective area of claims management. In addition, but not limited to, job knowledge will include the following

• Expert knowledge of all relevant regulations, including the Insurance Act, pertaining to the claims assigned

• Expert competency in reading and interpreting all policy wordings relevant to claims assigned

• Expert competency in comprehension of reserve calculations and exposure

• A full understanding on reinsurance agreements available and the necessary process for reporting

• Expert competency and knowledge with mediation and claims resolution processes. Act as resident expert and actively participate where appropriate

• Expert demonstration of interpretation and understanding of professional reports including summary options and prognosis as relevant to claim

• Expert knowledge of pricing norms and variables as relates claim specific expense and resolution costs

• Completion of Post-Secondary Education and a minimum of five years of insurance, preferably in claims is required

• Ability to provide technical training and mentorship to Claims Support, and Level 1 & 2 Claims Adjusters and broker partners regarding all levels of claims

• Working towards or completion of CIP designation, and an active pursuer of the necessary education to respond to a changing marketplace

• Proven superior organizational skills and ability to multitask is required

• Thorough attention to detail is a must to ensure accuracy of claims documents

• Excellent mathematical skills are required with the ability to perform, and interpret, complex calculations when determining benefits or assessing estimates and invoices presented

• Effective communication skills: verbal, non-verbal and written

• Sound morals, ethics and confidentiality with the ability to develop trusting and effective working relationships with peers and employees

• Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and empathy are required

• Superior problem solving skills and negotiation skills

• Strong computer literacy, proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs and internet navigation
