The Financial Data Engineer utilizes data engineering and coding methods in the modernization of process within the Finance function. At the core of the Finance team, is accountability for decision support, namely the maintenance and update of complex financial models in a highly automated fashion, to be immediately influential in decision making. Furthermore, the employee is responsible for the design, creation, delivery, and execution of process automations, data sets, and ETL processes within the financial statement close process, reducing the reliance of manual reconciliation, one-use static reporting, validation, and manual inputs. The employee will be tackling a range of complex software, data, and systems issues.
What you will do:
• Timely and accurate delivery of data supporting strategic and tactical decisions
• Demonstrated ability to maintain adherence to respect to confidential information as required
• Provide support for the organization’s Finance & Risk strategy, to optimize the company’s financial performance and strategic position
• Manage, automate, and make data/model-based decisions and judgment calls which influence significant decisions across the organization
• Make design and reliability trade-offs in the design of robotic process automations, financial models, and software applications
• Build and prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale
• Research and develop analyses and forecasting and optimization methods across the Finance function and in support of decisions underpinned by financial metrics elsewhere in the organization
• Coach and mentor other financial technical experts
• Ensure resource planning is sufficient to meet delivery service needs to the business, forecast future resource requirements and actively manage performance of your team
• Communicate company goals and objectives to employees, align and support individual goals in support of the company goals
Tools / Technologies:
• Post-Secondary Education in Computer Science, statistics, mathematics, or similar quantitative field with equivalent work experience
• Coding experience with modern programming or scripting languages including one or more of Java, Python, VBA, and Spark
• Experience in writing and optimizing SQL
• Exceptional background in workflow automation, data, business intelligence, and software engineering
• Effective communication skills; verbal, non-verbal and written; and ability to communicate throughout on all levels of the organization
• Fluency in coding and systems design and a desire to tackle the complex technical problems of critical importance to the Chief Financial Officer
• An expert in the architecture of data warehousing solutions, using multiple platforms and tools
